An Enchanting End to 2023
Revisit our Deep Dive into Enchanted to end the year on a high note!
Happy almost new year! To help you set the stage for a magical 2024, we are re-releasing our Deep Dive into “Enchanted” this week. This is one of our favorite episodes digging into one of our favorite songs. Also, as we have learned over the past few months, “Enchanted” can apparently be connected to every Taylor Swift song. Revisit this classic song with us this week and start manifesting a sparkling, magical 2024 for us all.
A Special NYE Extra Credit - from Jenn
Since we have already talked about “Enchanted” so much (and will continue to do so for sure), I wanted to do something a little different for our extra credit this week. Now I’m not personally super huge on new year’s resolutions, but reading is an exception to that. I find that as I’ve gotten a bit older, I am seeing more friends and family make reading goals for the year. I love this because reading is fun and this is a goal that I think is FAR more interesting than weight loss goals anyways.
If this resonates with you, keep on reading, because I am here to help! This week’s extra credit is going to be some book recommendations for swifties. Many of these we will have discussed in the podcast, so I’ll also share the episode where we mention the book if relevant.
“tolerate it” from folklore | Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Rebecca is absolutely a classic. It follows the story of Mrs. de Winter, the new wife of Max de Winter. After Mrs. de Winter is married and returns to her new home, she quickly discovers that her predecessor, the now-deceased Rebecca, still looms over the whole household, her new husband included. If you are feeling a sad girl winter coming on and want to loop “tolerate it” while crying, pick up this classic book to add to the experirence.
“the lakes” from folklore | Journals of Dorothy Wordsworth
In 2024 we are going to be giving credit where credit is due. If that’s the energy you’re bringing into the year too, maybe kick it off by reading the Journals of Dorothy Wordsworth to see the true genius behind the poetry her brother published. Also a nice way to escape into nature if you live somewhere where you aren’t going to be outside for the next few months.
“Getaway Car” from reputation | Bonnie and Clyde: The Making of a Legend by Karen Blumenthal
More of a nonfiction fan? No problem! Check out the full story of the iconic Bonnie and Clyde in Bonnie and Clyde: The Making of a Legend. Getting to know the true story behind such major cultural touch points is both fun and always a good reminder to check your sources. Dive into the true story, and maybe be inspired to make your own path too in 2024 (just…a legal path without murder probably?).
“‘tis the damn season” from evermore | Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Looking for something more modern? Tired of the “mean big city girlfriend” trope? Check out Book Lovers by Emily Henry. In this story, our protagonist is one of those “uptight career women,” and we get to follow her story as she figures out who she is, what she wants, and how she is able to grow while staying true to herself.
AP Taylor Swift in 2024 | The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, & Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Want to be ahead of the curve? Well spoiler alert, we have two book-themed episode planned so far for 2024. In the first episode of the year, we will be discussing songs that remind us of The Great Gatsby. Later on in 2024, we will share songs that we think fit in with the story of Pride and Prejudice, and we have another upcoming episode that will feature The Picture of Dorian Gray quite heavily. All of these incredible books are worth reading any time of the year, but go ahead and give them an order now if you want to be ready to fully engage with our conversations!
Got any books you would recommend to your fellow swifties? Do you have any other Taylor-related new year’s resolutions? Leave a comment below! We would love to hear what you are planning for the next year!
